While Phuket doesn’t boast nearly as many nightclubs and discos as Bangkok, there are just enough entertaining and trendy establishments for anybody that wants to dance the night away after a hard day spent relaxing on the beach. The discos each have their own character and theme, and vary widely in size, style, and clientele. Some are kitsch and cheesy, others are hip, classy and modern. Music wise, there’s an eclectic mix including rock, pop, dance, disco, hip-hop and house, but most discos tend to play fairly standard club tunes. The most popular clubs occasionally have renowned international DJ’s to thrill the crowds, and a dedicated troupe of followers that arrive late when the bars, go-go clubs and everywhere else winds down.
Inevitably, most venues are based near Patong Beach, but there are several in Phuket Town that are popular mainly with Thais. Besides the prerequisite dance floors and thunderingly loud music, a few have live rock bands, sexy cabaret, pole dancing and other more wacky entertainment, which helps to attract people in the early evening when it’s usually quieter. Most discos stay open late and don’t become lively until at least midnight or even later. Go to a club at 10pm and you’ll probably be the only one in there! A few venues charge entrance fees between 150 to 500 baht but thankfully most are free, but you’ll always be charged higher prices for drinks that at the regular bars and pubs.
One inescapable fact is that at most of these joints, you’ll no doubt notice the mélange of readily available and willing freelance bar girls, who are there not only to have a good time with friends, but with the express intention to grab a paying customer for the night to earn some extra cash. This is just an unavoidable fact in the discos around Phuket, but the more exclusive places with a high entrance fee tend to discourage the bar girls. There’s also a cosmopolitan mix of nationalities rubbing shoulders, dancing, drinking and flirting.
Here’s our lowdown on the hottest and most popular clubs and discos in Phuket.
Banana disco is supposedly the oldest disco in Patong Beach, but you wouldn’t realise as it all looks fairly clean, modern and well maintained. An eccentric Aztec theme runs throughout, and there is a giant illuminated yellow banana outside to ensure that you can’t miss it. There are two air-conditioned floors with bars on both levels, and sometimes a live band until late evening after which is transforms into a disco playing hip-hop, dance and electronic music.
A steep cover charge of 400 baht (which includes 2 free drinks) ensures that the bar girls are fairly thin on the ground. The disco is located on the main beach road, just a few minutes farther south from the western end of Bangla Road.

Sandwiched tightly between Tai Pan disco and Rock City on the opposite side of Bangla Road, the small but famous Baya Club is a well established favourite in Patong Beach, and attracts a mix of locals and tourists keen to have a night out with decent music and very friendly girls. Things only get going after 2am, by which time you’re probably already inebriated and well on the way to tomorrow’s hangover. Free entry and a lively but intimate atmosphere is a bonus, and all drinks are a fairly reasonable 80 baht.
Open: 8pm to 3am
Where: opposite Bangla Road in Patong, between Tai Pan and Rock City
The D Club is located at the end of Soi Crocodile (Soi Katoey) and has two floors with split levels, with bars on each and DJ’s that play mainly hip-hop and dance music. It only becomes lively late on, and is within convenient distance of all the beer bars and ladyboys in the street outside. Entrance is free and the drinks prices fairly typical.

The newish Famous nightclub is somewhat unique amongst clubs in Patong, in that it tries exceptionally hard to raise the bar and infuse some elegance, style and chic into the proceedings. Built on two levels, the massive 1000 capacity nightclub and dance floor occupies the lower level, complete with an impressive 30 metre video display behind the bar area. Upstairs is the swanky rooftop beach club, complete with a glass-bottomed swimming pool and exclusive VIP area where the beautiful people can drape themselves.
Dance, house, and techno music are played by Thai and international DJ’s, and special events and theme parties are held regularly. It’s based inside the JungCeylon shopping centre in the heart of Patong. There are regular ladies’ nights with free entry and a drink. It’s not cheap here, but seems to have made a splash. Upmarket venues don’t usually last long in Phuket, but Famous seems to have started out on the right footing.
Open: Tue – Sun, 10pm to 5am
Where: JungCeylon shopping centre, 193 Rat-U-Thit Road, Patong

Located in Soi Easy, Hollywood disco is one of the favourite after hours venues in Patong especially with the younger tourist crowd and, as expected, hordes of prowling bar girls. There are regular prize giveaways and themed event parties, and the dance floor has dozens of convenient poles for the girls to wiggle on. Music is typical dance fare but they have some decent DJ’s.

Where: Soi Easy, off Bangla Road, Patong
There’s some debate whether Rock City is a disco, club or simply a live music venue, but who cares as it stays open incredibly late and plays some excellent music. Established in 2005, they eschew dance music in favour of hard rock, metal, and grunge classics. Some excellent local tribute bands cover Guns N’ Roses, AC/DC, Kiss, Bon Jovi and Metallica. You’d swear they were the real thing! With regular parties and two hours of free drinks several nights a week, the place certainly rocks and remains a firm favourite.
Open: 8pm until late
Where: Rat-U-Thit Road, at the lower end of Bangla Road, Patong
A trendy and popular local disco, Seduction is set on three levels, with Rn’B music on one, house and club music on another, and the VIP members-only Blow lounge on the last. They have some acclaimed international DJ’s visiting occasionally, such as Paul Oakenfold, Judge Jules, and HedKandi. Décor even includes indoor palm trees and huge glitter balls, but it’s all stylishly done. Special open bar parties with unlimited drinks and 20 baht drinks for an hour on Monday nights, ensures that it’s always busy.

Tai Pan Disco
Billed somewhat confidently as the finest bar in Thailand (even going so far as selling “F.B.I. Thailand” merchandise), Tai Pan is packed to the rafters every night with locals, expats, and more friendly Thai girls than you can imagine. Happy hour lasts until 10.30pm every night, with all drinks for 100 baht. After that, drinks are much more expensive but there is never an entrance fee.
The music is largely rock and pop hits with a live band each night until 11.30pm, after which it turns into a proper disco. The dance floor is large and the staff wear skimpy uniforms, while pole dancers and sexy shows keep the male clientele entertained.
Open: 8.30pm until late
Where: Rat-U-Thit Road, close to Bangla Road, Patong
StereoLab Beach Club
Perhaps more of a lounge bar and club than a conventional disco, StereoLab based at Surin Beach has some of the coolest DJ’s and tunes outside of Patong, and is an excellent alternative for those looking to try somewhere a bit more unusual. Past DJ’s include well known Asian DJ Nakadia, HedKandi, as well as many other international names. It can become quite busy when there are parties and events on.
The Tiger disco is somewhat of an institution in Patong, located on the top floor above the dozens of girly bars near the bottom end of Bangla Road. The hip-hop and disco music is played excessively loud, but the patrons don’t seem to mind. It’s not the most sophisticated disco around but it’s still popular and has comparatively cheap drinks. There is usually an entrance fee of a few hundred baht, which includes a couple of free drinks. Just follow the neon signs and the bizarre life-sized tigers to find it.

White Room Lounge and Nightclub
The White Room is a stylish, modern nightclub in Soi Gonzo that’s popular with a young and hip crowd. There are two bars and several VIP rooms, as well as two resident DJ’s that play dance, house, hip-hop and Rn’B. Think white décor, ambient lights and some large glitter balls.
